Stammers consist of repetition of sounds or parts of words or perhaps a complete break in what is being said. It is the negative feelings that are associated with stammering which need to be treated. People with stammers tend to start to avoid words or sounds that they think will cause a stammer, so they are thinking ahead, not just about what they are saying but also whether part of that will cause a stammer, and if so what they can say instead. All this doesn’t help their conversation to be fluent, it puts so many other pressures on saying what they are trying to say.

So if you suffer from a stammer, the first thing to do is to embrace it as part of you.

Stammering and Stuttering

Hypnotherapy & Stammering

The main ways in which hypnotherapy helps with stammering is by helping to reduce anxiety and improve relaxation and self-confidence.

By embracing it as a part of you, and accepting that you are special and just fine the way you are, the stammer becomes less of an issue and consequently becomes less.

A stammering man is never a worthless one.  Physiology can tell you why.  It is an excess of sensibility to the presence of his fellow creature that makes him stammer.

Thomas Carlyle

From my earliest days I have enjoyed an attractive impediment in my speech. I have never permitted the use of the word stammer. I can't say it myself.
